Menus Announcements Tray TalkThe School Nutrition Association has a website called "Tray Talk", which has useful information about nutritional requirements for school breakfasts and lunches, school lunch trends, recipes, and other interesting tidbits. SNAP of the MonthA new program has been put into place this fall. The SNAP (Student Nutrition Awesome Person) program recognizes a Student Nutrition staff member who has been chosen by their peers as the one most deserving of recognition for each month. The honoree for August of 2011 is Rita Emery, who works at the Middle School. If you see Rita, make sure you congratulate her on her hard work! The honoree for September is Vanessa Kietzman, who is at the High School West. Congratulations, Vanessa! October's SNAP Employee is Cherie Williams of the High School West kitchen. She's also a bus driver, so this awesome lady burns the candle at both ends! Free and Reduced Meal ApplicationThe Free and Reduced Meal Application is now available for the 2011-2012 school year. Please download, print and return to Barb Smith at the District Administrative Center (DAC). The application also includes a Waiver of Confidentiality which must also be filled out in order to receive free/reduced fees and busing. All Free and Reduced Applications will be entered at the DAC rather than at the school buildings. Should you have any questions, please contact Barb Smith at 913-845-2153. New USDA Guidelines Coming UpAs a result of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, the USDA has made modifications to the nutritional requirements for school breakfast and lunch. They have made a slideshow available to help the public understand the new requirements and their implications.
